It has graduated four governors, corporate presidents across the nation, and professionals in every walk of life.. Among its alumni are doctors, lawyers, and entrepreneurs who first chose this small school to start their education.. The College traces its origins to September 1, 1886, when business educator H.. S.. Goldey opened the Wilmington Commercial College with only five students.. In 1900, one of Goldey's best instructors, W.. H.. Beacom parted ways opening his own school, only blocks away.. By 1929, the re-named Beacom College had an enrollment over 1000, and for four decades the two engaged in fierce competition.. In 1951, the two entities merged, giving rise to today's Goldey-Beacom College.. In 1974, the College relocated from its landlocked downtown Wilmington location to the present suburban Pike Creek campus.. The College was first accredited by  ...   following year, attained accreditation by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).. In 2006, the College was again granted the full ten-year accreditation by each of the organizations.. In 2009 the College announced the introduction of baccalaureate programs in economics and psychology, expanding on their long history of excellence in business education.. Through an extensive outcomes assessment program, the College annually reviews concrete measures of student achievement ranging from student projects to placement rates to employer feedback.. Every measure is then reviewed to determine where and how the College can do better.. A plan is put in place, and the data is reviewed again one year later.. GBC also regularly measures a variety of components in the learning environment to guarantee academic quality.. As one important measure of academic quality, the College regularly assesses the accomplishments and credentials of the faculty – the heart of the institution.. Additionally, all academic programs are reviewed annually in accordance with the established.. review process.. Here is the most recent data on quality and student achievement:.. The mean cumulative GPA for undergraduate degree students in 2011-12 was 3.. 12..
