Descriptive info: The role of Ashford University extends beyond our own office walls.. Social responsibility is a major force within.. our organization so we regularly give back via time, support, and volunteerism to many worthy causes focused.. on education, youth, and the military.. Ashford University supports a variety of charitable organizations throughout.. the communities we serve.. Enrollment Services.. Jared Woolworth • Lead Military Admissions Counselor • Ashford University.. My name is Jared Woolworth and I am a Lead Military Admissions Counselor for Ashford University.. Prior to Ashford, I worked as a Marketing Coordinator for Billabong in Irvine, California and I also worked in the marketing department at Liquid Force Wakeboards.. I applied at Ashford because I heard there was a lot of opportunity for growth within the company – and it was located in San Diego.. I was hired in December 2009 as an Admissions Counselor, and found that I was right about there being opportunities.. There are many different programs that are offered to employees, including the education tuition program and professional development opportunities.. I am currently attending Ashford University and pursuing my Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Organizational Leadership, and I am involved in the Future Leaders Program.. If you work hard, you will have the opportunity for personal growth, as well as the opportunity for advancement within the company.. In May 2010, I was promoted to Lead Military Admissions Counselor.. My job is to contact military students all over the world to let them know about the great benefits Ashford University offers through the military grant.. I also advise these students on tuition assistance and the GI Bill, and educate them on which benefits to use.. I really enjoy helping our military personnel change their lives – I know that by receiving a quality education they can find a good job when they separate from the service, and they can have the opportunity for promotion while still in the service.. When I was in my second month on the job, I received an email from one of my students who had written an essay in his first course about the people in his life who were most supportive of him.. He thanked me for helping him return to school; he told me he would not have gone back at all if it weren’t for me.. I still have that email.. In it, the student included a portion of his essay: “Jared helps me stay motivated.. There is not a week that goes by without me finding emails in my inbox with nothing but positive comments like, ‘Congratulations, you made it through another week,’ or ‘Keep up the good work.. ’ I know it’s his job, but it is still motivating to read or hear things like that.. It makes you want to keep pressing forward and stay focused.. That’s what supportive people do.. They keep pushing you to better your life.. ” That’s why I love this job.. Jennifer Fore • Admissions Counselor • Ashford University.. My name is Jennifer Fore and I am originally from the Bay area.. I moved to San Diego with my  ...   was made in that initial phone call.. Just last month I had a student complete her last assignment; she called me crying to thank me for all I did for her.. There are not many jobs that give you that kind of an opportunity to touch people’s lives.. But it’s not just about the students – when I think of my experience here, I think of the great friendships and mentors I’ve had along the way.. I’ve worked in a few ‘career’ jobs and have always gotten burned out or bored.. Working at Ashford is so great because the opportunities are endless! I know the sky is the limit with this company; once you prove yourself as a hard worker, you are greatly rewarded.. The people here actually care about you and want to see you succeed – I have never worked with as many quality, fun-loving, and supportive people in my life.. Hulahand Salamasina • Student Relations Specialist • Ashford University.. My name is Hulahand Leafitusi Salamasina (yes, that’s 27 letters), but everyone calls me ‘Hula’ for short.. I live in sunny San Diego and have been working at Ashford University for the past three years.. I have loved every second of it.. My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (with an emphasis in Management and Finance) from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, which is right outside of Los Angeles.. Recently, I completed my Master of Arts in Education from Ashford University.. While I was in college, I worked in many different avenues of business, but I always found myself coming back to education.. I’ve always enjoyed teaching and sharing new ideas with people, especially ideas about the importance of education.. When I graduated from college, I looked for work that would allow me to contribute to the field of education, and I found Ashford University.. In November 2007, I was hired as an Admissions Counselor.. In June 2008, I transferred to the Student Relations Department, where I currently work as a Lead Student Relations Specialist (SRS).. This department was fairly new when I was promoted, and I felt my qualities would fit perfectly with the goals of the department.. I applied and got the job, and a year and a half later I still love it.. There are a lot of components of my job as an SRS, but the main goal is to provide the enrollment teams with tools and practices that will help them to retain the students they enroll, so that those students graduate with their degrees.. My favorite part of this job is working together with the Admissions Counselors, Managers, and Directors to ensure the student is successful.. Beyond my job description, I love working for Ashford because of the culture we’ve created within our department.. People here love their jobs, not only because of what they do, but also because of the people with whom they work.. I truly believe being able to promote a positive environment that’s based on a ‘family’ atmosphere encourages hard work and dedication within any organization.. That’s the experience I’ve had here at Ashford..

Working directly with your Recruiter, you'll have the opportunity to explore multiple positions simultaneously, and to receive added exposure to different departments and hiring leaders.. By Peter Vogt, Monster Senior Contributing Writer.. It's deceptively easy to make mistakes on your resume and exceptionally difficult to repair the damage once an employer gets it.. So prevention is critical, especially if you've never written one before.. Check out this resume guide to the most common pitfalls and how you can avoid them.. Typos and Grammatical Errors.. Your resume needs to be grammatically perfect.. If it isn't, employers will read between the lines and draw not-so-flattering conclusions about you, like: This person can't write, or This person obviously doesn't care.. Lack of Specifics.. Employers need to understand what you've done and accomplished.. For example:.. A.. Worked with employees in a restaurant setting.. B.. Recruited, hired, trained and supervised more than 20 employees in a restaurant with $2 million in annual sales.. Both of these phrases  ...   files, making them easily accessible to department members.. 5.. Going on Too Long or Cutting Things Too Short.. Despite what you may read or hear, there are no real rules governing the length of your resume.. Why? Because human beings, who have different preferences and expectations where resumes are concerned, will be reading it.. That doesn't mean you should start sending out five-page resumes, of course.. Generally speaking, you usually need to limit yourself to a maximum of two pages.. But don't feel you have to use two pages if one will do.. Conversely, don't cut the meat out of your resume simply to make it conform to an arbitrary one-page standard.. 6.. A Bad Objective.. Employers do read your resume's objective statement, but too often they plow through vague pufferies like, Seeking a challenging position that offers professional growth.. Give employers something specific and, more importantly, something that focuses on their needs as well as your own.. Example: A challenging entry-level marketing position that allows me to contribute my skills and experience in fund-raising for nonprofits.. 7.. No Action Verbs.. Avoid using phrases like responsible for.. Instead, use action verbs: Resolved user questions as part of an IT help desk serving 4,000 students and staff.. 8.. Leaving Off Important Information.. You may be tempted, for example, to eliminate mention of the jobs you've taken to earn extra money for school.. Typically, however, the soft skills you've gained from these experiences (e.. g.. , work ethic, time management) are more important to employers than you might think.. 9.. Visually Too Busy.. If your resume is wall-to-wall text featuring five different fonts, it will most likely give the employer a headache.. So show your resume to several other people before sending it out.. Do they find it visually attractive? If what you have is hard on the eyes, revise.. 10.. Incorrect Contact Information.. I once worked with a student whose resume seemed incredibly strong, but he wasn't getting any bites from employers.. So one day, I jokingly asked him if the phone number he'd listed on his resume was correct.. It wasn't.. Once he changed it, he started getting the calls he'd been expecting.. Moral of the story: Double-check even the most minute, taken-for-granted details -- sooner rather than later..
